Malik campaign to host community conversations this month throughout city

‘AkronSpeaks’ asks public for input on Malik’s Together for Akron vision

Shammas Malik’s campaign for Mayor of Akron announced today that it will host a community dialogue series called AkronSpeaks. The purpose of these events is to invite public input on the four pillars of Malik’s Together for Akron vision: Safer Together, Working Together, Living Together, and Learning Together.

Each of the four AkronSpeaks events will focus on one of Malik’s Together for Akron pillars and take place at an Akron area library branch as follows:

  • Wednesday, March 15, 5:00pm-6:30pm, North Hill Branch Library Community Room – Safer Together: A conversation about public safety

  • Saturday, March 18, 10:30am-12:00pm, Goodyear Branch Library Community Room – Working Together: A conversation about jobs and economic opportunity

  • Monday, March 20, 5:30pm-7:00pm, Firestone Park Branch Library Community Room – Living Together: A conversation about health, housing, and the environment

  • Monday, March 27, 6:00pm-7:30pm, Odom Boulevard Branch Library Community Room – Learning Together: A conversation about education

Malik pointed to community engagement as an important part of his campaign and vision for Akron.

“A collective vision for Akron’s future should reflect its people, their perspectives, and their experiences,” Malik said. “AkronSpeaks is about intentionally engaging Akron residents about their realities, ideas, and dreams for our city’s future.”

Malik said that his campaign will take ideas and feedback from each of the sessions and incorporate them into more detailed policy plans that they will release in April.

“We will engage people in a positive and respectful way that helps them see what new leadership in our city would look and feel like,” he said.

Malik’s campaign welcomes all Akron residents to attend the free AkronSpeaks events. Refreshments will be provided. Registration on the campaign website is not required, but encouraged. Residents can register at https://www.malikforakron.com/news-events/akronspeaks.

Additionally, Akron residents that cannot attend the AkronSpeaks events in person are still invited to provide input on the Malik for Mayor campaign website, using the same link above.
